The poem occupies an invisible zone

between the subjective emotional utterance and the objective reporting of fact. It is relative and universal, false and true. Negotiating this contradiction with finesse is crucial to the poem's success. – Jennifer Moxley

  1. VERY true - and very well said. Even if a poem is inspired by a real event, a successful poem negotiates its own truth independently of that event.

  2. I think that there is ofter no contradiction: the best poems illuminate and offer insight into a facet of reality.
